Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has described the new Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh as a strong spiritual pillar of his administration, saying he appreciated his spiritual contribution to the leadership of the state.
Dr. Uduaghan who was speaking at a send forth banquet for the Primate in Asaba said the Primate and other religious leaders have been interceding spiritually in the affairs of the State and expressed appreciation to God for what he is using Most Rev. Okoh to do for the state and Nigerians.
“Most Rev. Okoh and others have been prayerful and have several times interceded in the affairs of the state and we owe him a lot of gratitude,” he said.
He said he was excited when Okoh was presented as the new Primate even as he explained that the gradual progress of the Primate in the work of God was an indication that God was with the state.
The Governor prayed God to take absolute control of the spiritual life of the new Primate to enable him continue to give purposeful leadership to the Anglican Communion and Nigeria.
Dr. Uduaghan who also expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council, Gen. T.Y. Danjuma for his role in stabilizing the polity in Nigeria especially the Niger Delta, said Danjuma has been so keen in seeing that peace and security triumph in the Niger Delta.
“Gen. Danjuma is a special person to the people of Niger Delta. He is very interested in the affairs of Niger Delta and makes extra effort so that peace and security reigns in the zone,” he said.
Governor Emmanuel attributed the nation’s present stability under the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to the quality advice General Danjuma is giving the President in his capacity as Presidential Chief Adviser.
Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) who was also the chairman of the occasion commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his exemplary leadership traits.
The former Defence Minister said he was delighted to see Governor Uduaghan arrive punctually at the Cathedral of St. Peter for a send-forth service earlier held in honour of the Anglican Primate. “I thank the governor for arriving the church on time in spite of the fact that it has become fashionable in Nigeria for leaders to deliberately arrive late to functions,” he said.
His words “I have attended two ceremonies in this state where Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan featured and each time he arrived before time. This is very good because most people in positions of authority do not keep to time”.
He therefore urged top government functionaries and those in positions of authority to emulate the governor.
Gen. Danjuma described Most Rev. Okoh as hardworking and dedicated even as he explained that it was because of his sterling qualities that God choose him for the new position.
Earlier at a thanksgiving held at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Asaba, Primate Okoh urged Christians to practice self denial, saying what was important in the work of God was not how much people sang and danced in the Church but how much Christians could deny themselves of worldly things.
He therefore charged Christians to demonstrate selflessness by showing concern towards the welfare of others.
The Primate urged Christians to heal themselves and demonstrate exemplary character in whatever discipline they found themselves.
The church service witnessed presentation of souvenir to the Primate and his wife by various Dioceses and Archdeaconries.
