UDUAGHAN IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, EXPLAINS DELTA GREEN ECONOMY INITIATIVE FROM LEFT LINDA ADAMS, SECRETARY , CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, MRS DIEZANI ALISON-MADUEKE, MINISTER OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES AND GOVERNOR EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN, AT THE DELTA STATE GREEN ECONOMY INITIATIVE INVESTMENT ROUNDTABLE HELD IN HOUSTON, T Ending gas flare, restoring the rivers and renewing land devastated by oil pollution to enable the people return to their traditional occupation has been identified by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as the reason behind the Delta Green Economy Initiative. Governor Uduaghan told a capacity audience in Houston, made up of senior Nigerian government officials led by Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, GMD of NNPC, Mr Shehu Ladan, Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Mr Tunde Lemo, Mr Richard Jones, Executive Director, of International Energy Agency ( IEA) Mr Andrew Fawthrop ( MD of Chevron) Ms Linda Adams ( Secretary of state of Environment of the state of California) American top executives and investors that Delta state Green Economic initiative strategy is anchored on developing new economic source, that is built on ‘Delta Without Oil’ ; and by encouraging sustainable and green industries, collaborating with technology companies and investors in building energy efficient methods in power, agriculture and waste management. Governor Uduaghan at the May 5th event sponsored by Chevron, Bank PHB and Oceanic Bank, outlined steps his administration has taken to get the green economy initiative of the ground which he listed collaboration with reputable institutions like UNDP under the Territorial Area Climate Change Approach (TACC) programme which has enabled Delta state to benefit from expert assistance in assessing the extent of environmental damage, which should lead to bankable data that will be used to attract global funds targeted at fighting climate change and environmental devastation. The other measures he listed is the collaboration with IEA, which will soon visit the state to advise on energy mix that the state can adopt that will be environmental friendly, affordable and can lead to job creation. Other steps taken by the government is the partnership with state of California in area of capacity building and institution support. The immediate fallout of this, he said is the assistance from California in the restructuring of the Ministry of Environment in Delta state to cope with the government initiative. Governor Uduaghan identified the support from Chevron in accepting to partner with the state government in this area and charged other oil producing companies to take cue from this. Governor Uduaghan listed the investment opportunities in the state that must be compliant with his administration green programme as Warri Industrial Park, Koko Export Free Zone. He said the packet of incentives for companies that show interest, and there were a lot of interest before and after his presentation.
