Senate President, Senator David Mark, Friday in Warri endorsed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for a second term, saying the governor has done well and delivered on his mandate.
Speaking at a grand reception organised by the Itsekiri Progressive Union for Governor Uduaghan at the Olu of Warri Palace ground, the Senate President urged Deltans not to waver in their support for the governor.
He said: “Governor Uduaghan has performed and will continue to perform. I appreciate everyone who has continued to support him thus far.”
The Senate President noted that whereas the greatest achievement of the Governor is the stability and unity he has brought to the state, the Governor must face the challenge of sustaining the development pace of the state.
In his remarks, Governor Uduaghan stated that he has taken up the challenge to “do more and do better…we have done something but the best is yet to come.”
The Governor, who called for the siting of the Oil and Gas Local Content Commission headquarters in Warri, commended the various ethnic groups for doing away with their differences adding that the presence of different ethnic groups at the palace attest to the mutual ethnic trust that now exists in the state.
He said his administration was determined to make Delta State the focal point of economic development in Nigeria and thanked his kinsmen for honouring him.
Speaking to journalists, Governor Uduaghan said he was pleased to be honoured by his people as well as other organisations in the country.
Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Roli Sheila Uduaghan described the ceremony as a proud moment for her especially as an Itsekiri woman.
Various Itsekiri cultural groups entertained while royal fathers, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II, were in attendance.
Top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Utuama (SAN) were also present.
