FROM RIGHT, GOVERNOR, EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN, DR. CHRIS OGHNECHOVWEN, COMMISSIONER FOR WATER RESOURCES AND MR. JIHAD AOUN DURING THE INSPECTION OF THE DUALIZATION OF REFINERY AND JAKPA ROAD PROJECTS IN EFFURUN.
Delta State Government is poised to provide mechanic villages for the twin cities Warri and Effurun, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan announced in Effurun at the weekend.
Governor Uduaghan who stated this while inspecting the ongoing dualization of Refinery Road said that the envisaged evacuation of motor mechanics to a village was part of efforts aimed at making the areas clean.
The governor who admonished some mechanics for pouring engine oil and throwing empty cans into drainage systems averred that “we cannot have mechanic workshops along this road when the dualization exercise is completed.
“We shall liaise with both the Warri South and Uvwie local governments to secure a place where we shall build modern mechanic villages where drivers and car owners can relax while their vehicles are being repaired,” Governor Uduaghan said.
An engineer with contracting firm handling the Refinery Road dualisation, Mr. Jihad Aoun, in his brief to the governor, said roundabouts will be provided at intervals in the 3.5 kilometre road.
Governor Uduaghan also took time to address commercial motorcycle riders and advised them on the need to wear helmets to avoid head injuries in the event of accidents.
He promised that commercial motorcyclists will be among those to be employed as drivers for 200 buses acquired by the state government for public transportation.
The governor was also at the Effurun New Layout which has been freed from flood menace as a result of the completion of drainage works.
He however directed that granites and sand emptied into the road at a building site be removed immediately.
The governor was accompanied on the inspection visits by the Chairman of Uvwie local government Council, Mr.Peter Abugewa.
