DON’T FALSIFY RECORDS, UDUAGHAN ADVISES CIVIL SERVANTS

• SWEARS-IN NEW HEAD OF SERVICE
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Wednesday in Asaba swore-in a new Head of Service, Mr. Okechukwu Ofili with charge to civil servants to abhor falsification of age and records.
The governor who also swore-in five newly appointed permanent secretaries, harped on the need for civil servants to live above board, stressing that “The moral tone in the service should be such that guarantees efficiency, effectiveness, punctuality to work, respect and the highest ideals of selfless service to our state.”
Uduaghan who said the new Head of Service and the five permanent secretaries were appointed on merit, were charged to brace-up to the challenges posed by Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
He emphasized the need for continuous training of civil servants in furtherance of his administration’s human capital development agenda. According to him, “We must begin the process of a purposeful and goal-oriented training as a critical endeavour in equipping staff for the effective and efficient discharge of their duties while addressing positive attitudinal disposition.”
Uduaghan who described the out-going Head of service, Dr. Samuel Okpokpor, as a stabilizing force in government, urged the new Head of Service to provide the required leadership and direction to the state civil service.
According to him, “You should be able to carry the entire civil service along and be seen to be transparent, fair, firm and just in your dealings with all civil servants, irrespective of status, tribal or religious background.”
To the new permanent secretaries, Uduaghan reminded them that by their new positions, they have assumed the mantle of leadership and should, therefore, be a source of inspiration and role model to other officers.
The governor harped on the essence of good governance even as he said that the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act are intended to provide some.
Responding, the new Head of Service, Mr. Okechukwu Ofili said he was humbled and thanked the governor for considering him fit for his new office.
Mr. Ofili assured the governor of the loyalty of the entire workforce and enjoined Permanent Secretaries and other officers in the state civil service to cooperate with him as he strives to take the civil service to the next level.
Those sworn-in as Permanent Secretaries are Barrister Hyacinth Nwankwor Osuhor, Mr. Benjamin Onovughakpo Igho, Mr. Aghagho Okuma, Mr. Raphael Agbaike and Mrs. Elizabeth Itiauen Augoye.
The ceremony which was held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba was attended by relations and friends of the new appointees as well as top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN).
