The umbrella body of Urhobo political activists, Urhobo Political Forum (UPF) has adopted Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for a second term in office.
National chairman of UPF, Chief Ighoyota Amori who disclosed the adoption at a grand affirmation rally organised for Governor Uduaghan in Sapele, said the decision was taken after a careful consideration of what he referred to as “all embracing achievements of the present administration.”
Chief Amori explained that the massive airport projects at Asaba and Osubi, the Koko/Ugbenu, Asaba/Ughelli dual carriage roads, Sapele/Abigborodo road among others were testimonies of Governor Uduaghan’s efforts to attract investments to the state.
He however appealed for the provision of street lights in Sapele and Ugbenu, the boundary town between Delta and Edo.
Speaking at the well attended rally, Governor Uduaghan assured that Sapele and other major towns and cities are to benefit from the beautification and street lights programmes of the state government as provisions have been made for them in this year’s budget.
“Let me assure everybody in Delta State that the future is very bright, we have in our 2010 budget the development plan that will accelerate infrastructure development in the state,” Governor Uduaghan said.
Dr. Uduaghan commended the Urhobo Political Forum for its support in ensuring Peace and unity in the State. “l thank UPF and everybody that have worked so hard to achieve this unity the state is now enjoying. It is in the interest of the state that we are united, l can see the unity you display here today and pray that we continue to sustain it as a state,” he said.
The governor thanked UPF for its support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and their readiness as a forum to support President Umaru Yar’Adua and the National Leadership of the PDP. “Delta is a PDP state and PDP is in full support of Mr. President and the National leadership of the party,” he said.
A former governor of Bayelsa State Chief Diepriye Alamieyeseigha who chaired the occasion commended UPF for the event and for striving for political visibility of the Urhobo nation.
He appealed to youths in the Niger-Delta region to shun armed struggle and embrace efforts to develop the region.
