FROM RIGHT, DELTA STATE GOVERNOR, DR. EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN, PROF. B. I. C. IJEOMA AND DR. (MRS) MARIAM ALI, DURING THE INAUGURATION OF ANIOMA POLITICAL FORUM, HELD AT ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE GROUND , ASABA.
• PREACHES INTER-ETHNIC UNITY

Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan Monday re-echoed faith in the unity of Delta State, saying that Asaba had come to stay as the State Capital.
The Governor, who spoke in Asaba as a Special Guest during the inauguration of the Anioma Political Forum (APF), assured the Anioma People of Delta North that whatever socio-economic development taking place in Asaba presently is “a tip of the ice-berg.”
He declared that “gone are the days when we saw Asaba as a place where we came to work and returned home, this town has come to stay as the capital of Delta State.”
Governor Uduaghan, who implored Deltans to see the state as one, posited that with the pace of infrastructure being put in place, Asaba was obviously the fastest growing capital in the country.
The Governor who congratulated the Anioma people for constituting a political forum used the occasion to thank all Deltans for supporting his administration, especially in the attainment of peace.
Even as he acknowledged that there was room for political clamour at the senatorial and ethnic levels, Dr. Uduaghan reminded Deltans that the biggest challenge confronting the state was the maintenance of peace and the removal of ethnic mistrust.
He said he cherishes peace and unity and believes that his administration can only achieve political, economic and cultural unity when everyone dream and preach peace.

The governor said there was no way any ethnic group will live in isolation and urged those in Delta South, Central and North to be each other’s keeper.

Promising to support all ethnic nationalities to achieve their aspirations, Dr. Uduaghan urged them to engage more in things that will unite the state rather than things that will tear it apart.

“I appreciate unity, peace and love among ethnic nationalities in the state. Please come together as one to move the state forward,” he said.

The governor however enjoined all those opposed to the construction of the Asaba Airport to have a rethink as the airport when completed will open more economic opportunities in the state.

Dr. Uduaghan who promised to complete the airport said nothing will derail him not even the dissenting voices in the state. “Those opposing the airport, Holy Ghost fire. Those who don’t want this airport to see the light of the day, holy ghost fire,” he prayed.

He also promised that development will flow from Asaba to other communities in the state.

Earlier in a welcome address, the chairman of the APF steering committee, Prof. B.I.C Ijeomah, traced the genesis of the body to the earlier Anioma State Movement.
According to the retired erudite University lecturer, “this movement created the consciousness that we are a people united by common language and in a contiguous territory”.
Highlighting the objectives of the Anioma Political Forum, Prof. Ijeomah said apart from serving as a platform of unity for Anioma people, the body intended to form “a credible umbrella body that will foster unity, peaceful relationship with other ethnic groups in Delta State on the basis of equality and equity in all dealings.”
The ceremony which held at the Saint Patrick College play ground attracted prominent indigenes of the Anioma nation as well as foremost political leaders from Delta Central and South Senatorial districts.
