Governor Uduaghan who was speaking when the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim paid him a courtesy call at government House, Asaba, yesterday, particularly canvassed a collective effort to check crime and commended the Navy for its role so far in the peace process, saying “success was achieved as a result of your support and this is commendable”.
The Governor promised to continue to support the Navy to check illegal bunkering even as he said that the presence of the Navy was necessary in the state because about 40 percent of the state was in riverine area.
Dr. Uduaghan assured the Naval Chief that all naval projects in the state would soon be completed and promised to continue to promote the peace and security agenda of his administration among others to ensure that Deltans enjoyed dividends of democracy.
Speaking earlier, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim assured Nigerians that the Navy will improve on sophistication to enable it cope with security challenges.
He promised also that the Navy will assist various governments in the federation to attain developmental goals. The Naval Chief however said that tackling crime successfully in the country require the collective effort of both security agencies and state governments.
He therefore appealed to state governments to assist the Navy to enable it contribute its quota towards reducing crime to the barest minimum in all environments.
Admiral Ibrahim specifically appealed to Delta State Governor not to relent in his support to the Navy explaining that even though militancy and youth’s restiveness have been erased through amnesty, illegal bunkering was still in existence.
He commended the Governor for transforming the state even as he observed that the state was a model and show piece for others to emulate.
