Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has been honored with an award by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for his support towards the upliftment of women and children as well as for his contributions towards the success of NAWOJ in Delta State.
Presenting the award to the governor in Abuja, the President of NAWOJ Alhaja Fatima Abdulkareem explained that the award was given to honour deserving eminent Nigerians for their contributions towards NAWOJ activities in their states or at the national level.
“The highpoint of our gathering tonight is to give honour and award to eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various endeavors. Some of these individuals have at one point or the other in the past contributed towards the activities of NAWOJ at the state or national level,” she said.
While receiving the award, Governor Uduaghan commended NAWOJ for recognizing his contributions to the association and tasked them to always maintain an organized opposition in their reporting in order to move the country forward.
According to him “I want journalists to ensure that they maintain an organized opposition in their reporting. It keeps those of us in position of authority, in check to do what is right. You need to remain the fourth estate of the realm to keep other arms of government in check.”
He assured them that the state government would support their project of building a NAWOJ secretariat in Abuja and urged them to move journalism profession to enviable heights.
