GOV UDUAGHAN DIRECTS IMMEDIATE REHABILITATION OF NYSC CAMP

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has directed that the second phase of the rehabilitation of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area be started immediately.

Dr. Uduaghan who gave this directive during the swearing-in-ceremony of the 2009 Batch ‘C’ Corp members also directed that the water borehole in the camp be made functional as soon as practicable.

He said that his government would continue to create enabling environment for the youth corpers even as he directed the NYSC Governing Board to provide a 100 KVA generator at the camp.

The governor charged the corps members to be patient and calm in order to be able to adapt to the culture of youth service and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of the country.

“You are here to undergo orientation programme which will take you through several stages of learning. I implore you to be patient and calm to be able to imbibe all the lessons to enable you contribute more meaningfully to the sustainable development of our dear nation,” he said.

Dr. Uduaghan charged them to take the skill acquisition programme in the orientation camp seriously as it would adequately equip them towards self employment.

The governor promised to look into the request of the co-ordinator of NYSC in the state and provide the necessary logistics to ensure comfort in the camp.

In a welcome address, the State Co-ordinator, Mrs. Mary Dan-Abia, commended the state government for its contributions towards the welfare of corps members and appealed to the governor to rehabilitate the dilapidated structures in the camp.

She explained that 1,200 corps members posted to the state would during the orientation be involved in activities ranging from lectures, seminars, Para-military training and skill acquisition programme.

Mrs. Dan-Abia called on Parastatals, private agencies and public enterprises to partner with the NYSC by accepting corps members posted to them.

In a brief remark, the Chairman State Governing Board, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Mr. Emma Okafor commended the state government for creating a conducive orientation camp for the corps members.

He charged corps members to make good use of the training programme in their orientation activities in order to prepare them for the challenges of life.

The State Chief Judge who was represented by Justice Kwame Okpu presided over the oath taking of the corps members.
