Delta State Government is to introduce Pneumonia Vaccine as a routine immunization programme in its health policy to check infant mortality in the state.
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who disclosed this during a courtesy visit by Master Care Foundation in Asaba noted that Pneumonia was a dangerous disease and claims the lives of children between the ages of 1-5years.
Dr. Uduaghan also called on the Federal Government to include in its health policies the use of Pneumonia vaccine in its routine immunization programmes, since the disease was more deadly than malaria and polio.
The Governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to assisting the foundation to prevent the disease and congratulated them for the recognition by the John Hopkins University (USA) to lead the campaign against pneumonia in the state.
The governor congratulated the foundation for its programme which he said has helped to develop human capital in the state and urged the co-coordinator to sensitize Deltans on the causes and prevention of the disease to save the lives of children.
According to him" There is no doubt that pneumonia is a dangerous disease that claims mostly the lives of children less than five years, yet it is given less attention by the federal and state governments. I urge you to make the people know about this disease, how dangerous it is, the causes and prevention."
The leader of the Master Care Foundation, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan informed the governor that the foundation was on the visit to solicit government support for pneumonia campaign in the state coming up in November this year.
She explained that the campaign train would visit the 25 local government councils in the state to sensitize Deltans on the causes and prevention of the disease to mark the World Pneumonia Day.
Mrs. Uduaghan said the foundation was out to educate Deltans especially women on the danger of the disease to reduce infant and maternal mortalities.
Present during the visit were the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Nelly Utuama and the Chief Executive Officer of Pink Pearl Miss Orode Uduaghan among others.
